Суэцкий «Рубикон» Антони Идена: решение об участии Великобритании в агрессии против Египта в 1956 г.

Аннотация


Суэцкий кризис 1956 г. считается одной из самых малопривлекательных страниц британской истории после окончания Второй мировой войны. Вину за решение вовлечь страну в бесславные военные действия против Египта нередко возлагают на премьер-министра Соединенного Королевства Антони Идена. Попытки объяснить это решение состоянием здоровья Идена представляются слишком поверхностными. В данной статье делается вывод о том, что участие Великобритании в тройственной агрессии против Египта логически вытекало из всего курса имперской политики королевства и не было отклонением от стиля мышления правящих британских кругов. Свою роль сыграл также кризис экспертного сообщества в Великобритании, одним из проявлений которого было отсутствие у А. Идена адекватной информации о состоянии британской экономики, ясного понимания военных возможностей империи, отлаженных коммуникаций с главным союзником – Соединенными Штатами.
