«Милость государя утвердила Бонифация епископом города Рима»: император Гонорий и кризис легитимности в Римской церкви в 419 г.

Аннотация


В статье исследуются обстоятельства вступления на римскую кафедру Бонифация I (418–422), сопровождавшегося соперничеством между двумя кандидатами. Поскольку изначально в качестве легитимного епископа императором Гонорием (395–423) был утвержден его соперник Евлалий, Бонифацию пришлось пройти сложную процедуру легитимации, решающим фактором которой была позиция императора. В статье исследуется роль институциональных факторов в сфере легитимации церковной власти, в данном случае применительно к римской кафедре. Под институциональными факторами понимаются прежде всего государственная власть в лице ее региональных и центральных представителей, а также сообщество епископов, объединенное принципом соборного функционирования. В статье рассматриваются подходы императорской власти к решению кризиса легитимности римского епископа. На основе представления данных источника показывается, что император Гонорий намеревался разрешить кризис посредством соборного суда, причем в состав собора должны были входить представители обеих префектур Западной Римской империи. Несмотря на свое первоначальное намерение, император был вынужден разрешить кризис самостоятельно, и Бонифаций был утвержден в качестве римского епископа его личным решением. Автором статьи делается вывод об определяющей роли императора в сфере церковного управления, а также об отсутствии у римского епископа исключительного положения среди епископов Западной Римской империи: дела римской кафедры по повелению императора могли передаваться на суд западных епископов, а право окончательного решения принадлежало самому императору. Тем самым император использовал соборный принцип управления церковью в качестве возможного инструмента разрешения внутрицерковных конфликтов, однако также оставлял за собой право единоличных решений в церковной сфере, причем римская кафедра не представляла здесь исключения.
